Ballistic nylon upper resists abrasion, tears, and UV degradation. Reinforced at high-wear zones (toe box, heel counter, lacing eyelets). Field-proven across decades of military boot construction.
Honeycomb Absorber
Engineered honeycomb geometry between sole layers absorbs and distributes explosive overpressure. Crushes progressively to attenuate blast energy before it reaches the foot. Military tier only.
FAIL-SAFE DESIGN
Passive Protection
If every electronic system fails, the ballistic midsole, composite toe, and structural shell continue to protect. No battery required for physical protection.
Walk Without Power
The carbon-fiber footplate provides passive energy return even without motor assist. When the battery dies, you still walk normally. The boot never becomes a liability.
Hot-Swap Battery
CapraVolt™ battery modules swap without stopping. Carry spares on your CapraPack™. Zero downtime, zero vulnerability during power changeover.
Modular Components
Motor unit, sensor insole, and haptic array are individually replaceable. A damaged component swaps in the field without tools. The boot self-calibrates on restart.
INNOVATION ARCHITECTURE
POWERED ASSIST
400 N of ankle-assist force from a compact micro gearmotor with harmonic drive. Torque vectoring adapts to gait phase: more push-off during uphill, more braking on descent, neutral on flat terrain.
GRF SENSOR ARRAY
Ground reaction force sensors map pressure distribution across 128 points per foot at 200 Hz. Combined with foot IMU data, the system builds a complete biomechanical model of every stride.
BLAST SURVIVABILITY
Military tier survives 50g TNT-equivalent anti-personnel mine blast. Honeycomb absorber, ballistic sole plates, and reinforced ankle shell dissipate energy before it reaches tissue. Inspired by ForceWare BCB2 mine-clearance boot architecture.
HAPTIC NAVIGATION
Four-zone haptic insole delivers directional navigation pulses, proximity warnings, and silent squad signals through the sole of the foot. Configurable intensity and pattern through CapraCore™ mission profiles.
POWER SYSTEM
100 Wh per pair from hot-swappable CapraVolt™ battery modules. Intelligent power routing prioritizes motor assist, then sensors, then haptics. Regenerative braking recovers energy during downhill movement.

BIOMECHANICS
GROUND REACTION FORCE
The powered carbon-fiber footplate generates up to 400 N of push-off force during toe-off phase (60-75% of gait cycle). This supplements the operator’s own plantarflexor output by approximately 25%, reducing calf fatigue during loaded marching. Force is applied through a lever arm aligned with the metatarsal heads for natural feel.
IMPACT ABSORPTION
Dual-density PU midsole combined with the carbon-fiber footplate absorbs 62% of heel-strike peak force compared to standard combat boots. This reduces cumulative stress fracture risk across multi-day operations. The energy return ratio (stored vs. dissipated) is tunable via footplate stiffness inserts.
ANKLE STABILIZATION
Active ankle cuff permits ±18° of natural inversion/eversion range while providing progressive resistance beyond that range. This prevents the two most common field injuries—lateral ankle sprain and Achilles tendon overload—without restricting normal gait biomechanics. Resistance profile adapts based on terrain roughness classified by the foot IMU.
PRESSURE MAPPING
The GRF sensor array divides the insole into 128 pressure zones sampled at 200 Hz. Real-time pressure maps feed into the CapraCore gait model for foot-strike classification (heel, midfoot, forefoot). The system detects gait asymmetry >8% and alerts the operator to potential injury compensation patterns before they become acute.
PROPRIOCEPTIVE FEEDBACK
The haptic insole contains 16 linear resonant actuators (LRAs) arranged in anatomical zones: heel (4), arch (4), ball (4), toes (4). Each channel can produce distinct vibration patterns from 50-300 Hz. Combined with the 9-axis foot IMU, the system provides proprioceptive augmentation—the operator “feels” the terrain through the boot even when wearing thick insulation layers.
THERMAL REGULATION
Operational temperature range from -30°C (Arctic) to +50°C (desert). Phase-change material inserts in the midsole buffer temperature extremes for 4+ hours. An optional heated insole accessory draws 5W from the CapraVolt power bus and maintains foot surface temperature at 28°C in extreme cold conditions.

SYSTEM INTEGRATION
CAPRASTRIDE™ DOCKING
The CapraHooves boot shaft contains a slide-lock cleat receptacle that receives the CapraStride exoskeleton ankle interface. Quarter-turn locks mechanical structure, 24V power, and CAN-FD data. The boot provides ground-truth biomechanical data (GRF, foot IMU, pressure maps) that the exoskeleton requires for its gait model. Without CapraHooves, CapraStride operates at reduced gait fidelity.
CAPRACORE™ TELEMETRY
Boot telemetry (128-zone pressure, 9-axis IMU, temperature, terrain conductivity) streams to CapraCore at 200 Hz via the CAN-FD bus. CapraCore fuses foot data with upper-body IMUs and helmet sensors to build a full-body kinematic model. This enables fatigue prediction, injury-risk alerts, and terrain-aware route optimization.
CAPRALINK™ CONNECTOR
The boot uses a single CapraLink connector at the ankle cuff: 24V / 3A power, CAN-FD (5 Mbit/s), and I2C secondary bus. MIL-spec twist-lock with IP68 rating (submersible to 2 m / 30 min). Gold-plated beryllium-copper contacts rated for 10,000+ mate cycles. In standalone mode (no exoskeleton), the connector accepts a direct-power adapter from CapraVolt battery modules worn on a belt.
STANDALONE OPERATION
CapraHooves operates independently of the CapraStride exoskeleton. In standalone mode, an embedded STM32H7 MCU runs the haptic navigation, pressure mapping, and footplate assist using a small 37 Wh battery integrated into the boot shaft. Runtime: 8+ hours for haptics-only, 4+ hours with footplate power assist. The boot is a complete system, not an accessory.
ACCESSORIES & ADD-ONS
Crampon Adapter Plate
CNC-machined 7075-T6 aluminum adapter that bolts to the outsole for technical ice and mixed terrain. Compatible with standard mountaineering crampons (C1/C2 rating). The adapter does not interfere with footplate actuation or GRF sensors. Adds 180 g per boot.
Heated Insole Module
Carbon-fiber heating element insole drawing 5W from CapraVolt power bus. Maintains foot surface temperature at 28°C in ambient conditions down to -40°C. Thermostat-controlled with three heat zones (toe, ball, heel). Fits above the haptic insole layer. Runtime: 6+ hours on CapraVolt 150 Wh module.
Low-Signature Outsole
Replacement outsole with minimal lug pattern and vibration-dampened heel strike zone. Reduces acoustic signature by 12 dB compared to standard outsole. Designed for reconnaissance and urban operations where noise discipline is critical. Same Vibram compound, different geometry.
Environmental Sensor Pod
Clip-on sensor module for the boot shaft that measures ambient temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, and UV index. Data feeds into CapraCore for environmental threat assessment and weather-change prediction. Powered by boot’s CapraLink connector. Weighs 35 g.

RISK ANALYSIS
Gearmotor Packaging in Boot Form Factor
Fitting ~400 N actuators into a wearable boot without increasing sole height beyond 35 mm. Mitigation: custom pancake motor design; planetary gearbox integrated into heel cavity; boot upper serves as structural housing.
Battery Weight Distribution
100 Wh battery per boot adds ~600 g to each foot, increasing metabolic cost during swing phase. Mitigation: battery positioned at ankle (proximal, not distal); lightweight carbon-fiber footplate offsets added mass; gearmotor assist compensates during push-off.
Water Ingress
Electronics in a ground-contact boot exposed to standing water, mud, and stream crossings. Mitigation: IP67 motor enclosures; waterproof membrane boot upper; sealed battery compartment with pressure-relief valve; drain ports at low points.
Haptic False Positives
Insole vibrations may be triggered by terrain vibration rather than intentional navigation cues. Mitigation: software-filtered GRF baseline subtraction; minimum signal threshold; user-adjustable sensitivity per zone.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
CapraHooves™ comes in three tiers. Consumer tier meets ASTM F2413-24 (composite toe, puncture-resistant sole). Prosumer adds a Kevlar ballistic midsole for fragmentation resistance. Military tier is rated to NATO STANAG 2920 — surviving 50g TNT-equivalent blast — with additional ceramic/Kevlar side panels protecting the ankle and Achilles.
A compact brushless micro gearmotor with harmonic drive delivers up to 400 N of ankle-assist force. The system reads GRF sensor data and IMU orientation to adapt torque to gait phase: increased push-off uphill, controlled braking downhill, and neutral on flat terrain. When the motor is off, the carbon-fiber footplate still provides passive energy return.
Battery life ranges from 4 to 8 hours depending on tier and assist level. Consumer (sensor-only) mode runs up to 8 hours. Military tier at full motor power runs approximately 4 hours. Hot-swappable CapraVolt™ battery modules allow field replacement without shutdown. Total energy: 100 Wh per pair.
Yes. The boot is designed with passive survivability as a core principle. All ballistic protection works without power. The carbon-fiber footplate provides passive energy return. The sole, upper, and structural shell function as a high-performance tactical boot even with zero battery charge. Electronics enhance — they never become a dependency.
Four vibrotactile actuators in the insole deliver directional pulses corresponding to GPS waypoints or CapraHelm™ sensor data. Turn left, turn right, slow down, stop — all communicated through the sole of your foot. No screen, no audio, no hands required. Patterns are configurable through CapraCore™ mission profiles.
A quick-release cleat dock on the boot locks into the CapraStride™ leg exoskeleton interface. The connection is both mechanical (transferring assist force from the exo to the ground) and electronic (CapraLink™ MIL-spec connector carries power, data, and control signals). Engage or disengage in under 2 seconds with a twist-lock motion.
Each boot contains a 128-point GRF pressure sensor array sampling at 200 Hz, a 6-axis IMU (3-axis accelerometer + 3-axis gyroscope), and four vibrotactile haptic actuators. Military tier adds piezoelectric pressure pads for mine/IED detection. All sensor data streams to CapraCore™ via CapraLink™ for centralized processing.
Consumer and Prosumer tiers meet ASTM F2413-24 (toe-cap impact 75 ft-lb, compression 2500 lbf) and ISO 20345 ergonomic requirements. Military tier additionally meets NATO STANAG 2920 for blast/fragmentation resistance. All tiers exceed ASTM slip resistance requirements and are rated for -40°C to +55°C operating temperature.
Yes. All tiers feature full bootie Gore-Tex waterproof breathable membrane construction, seam-sealed to IP67 equivalent. The boot keeps water out during creek crossings and sustained rain while allowing moisture vapor to escape, preventing trench foot during extended wet-weather operations.
Consumer tier targets sub-3 lb per boot (comparable to premium hiking boots). Prosumer with ballistic midsole and motor targets sub-4 lb. Military tier with full blast protection, side panels, and maximum motor assist will be heavier but designed to distribute weight ergonomically through the sole and ankle structure.
