Shore 60A durometer thermoplastic polyurethane, injection-molded in 5 articulated segments per hand. Impact absorption rated at 4.9 J per EN 13594:2015 Level 2. Each segment pivots independently on a living-hinge spine, maintaining knuckle flex to 90° without armor gap. Interior foam liner (Poron XRD) adds 3mm rate-sensitive cushion that stiffens on impact.

GripSkin™ Palm

GRIP SURFACE

Clarino™ synthetic microfiber leather (0.6mm) with silicone micro-dot overlay at 12 dots/cm². Static friction coefficient μ = 0.92 on dry steel, 0.71 on wet steel (Standard variant). Abrasion resistance exceeds 40,000 cycles (Taber H-18 wheel). Hook-and-channel replaceable attachment rated for 500+ swap cycles. Sensor-transparent lamination allows piezoresistive elements to read through the palm layer.

Piezoresistive Sensors

FORCE SENSING

5× FSR-400 series piezoresistive force sensors (one per fingertip) with 0.2–50 N sensing range and ±5% linearity across the full scale. Response time <1 ms. Laminated beneath the GripSkin layer on flexible Kapton substrate. Each sensor outputs 0–3.3V analog to a local ADC sampling at 200 Hz per channel. Fatigue-rated to 10M+ actuation cycles at rated force.

LRA Haptic Motors

TACTILE FEEDBACK

3× linear resonant actuators (index finger, middle finger, wrist dorsal) at 175 Hz resonant frequency. Peak force output 1.4 Grms. Rise time 15 ms (10%–90%). Power consumption 60–120 mW per motor during continuous drive. ERM fallback mode available for broadband vibration patterns. Each motor independently addressable via I²C from the local MCU on the wrist flex-PCB.

GRIP INTELLIGENCE

AI-POWERED HAND AWARENESS
01 // SENSE
✋

Pressure Mapping

5 fingertip piezoresistive sensors + 2 palmar zone sensors sample grip force at 200 Hz. Raw analog signals digitized by a dedicated ADC on the wrist flex-PCB, producing a real-time 7-channel pressure map of the entire grip surface.

02 // TRANSMIT
⇄

CapraCore Feedback Loop

Pressure data streams over CAN-FD bus through the CapraLink wrist connector to the vest-mounted CapraCore at 1 Mbps. Round-trip latency from sensor read to haptic command: <8 ms. The AI co-processor runs grip analysis models at the edge—no cloud dependency.

03 // CLASSIFY
🛠

Object Recognition

CapraCore’s grip classifier identifies object type from pressure signature alone: weapon (trigger + grip force pattern), rope (distributed cylindrical load), tool (asymmetric torque), fragile cargo (sub-5N delicate hold). Classification confidence >92% within 400 ms of initial grasp.

04 // ASSIST
⚡

PowerGrip™ Amplification

Military tier only. Miniature hydraulic actuators in finger channels amplify grip force up to 40%. The servo-assist algorithm reads operator intent from pressure ramp rate—fast squeeze = full assist, slow modulation = precision mode. Automatic disengage if sensor detects hand opening intent (<2N threshold).

FATIGUE DETECTION

The IMU and pressure sensors continuously track grip endurance. When sustained grip force drops below 80% of baseline over a 15-minute rolling window, the system issues a progressive haptic alert: gentle buzz at 80%, stronger pulse at 70%, and a wrist-mounted vibration pattern recommending hand rotation at 60%. All fatigue data logs to CapraCore for after-action review and training optimization.

CAPRALINK™ INTERFACE

WRIST CONNECTOR ARCHITECTURE

Physical Interface

CAPRALINK // WRIST-MOUNT

MIL-spec twist-lock connector recessed into a TPU wrist pocket. Quarter-turn to lock. IP67 sealed with dual silicone O-rings. 8-pin layout: 2× power (5V, 24V), 2× CAN-FD data (CAN-H, CAN-L), 2× I²C (SDA, SCL), 1× ground, 1× shield.

  • Mate/de-mate rated: 10,000+ cycles
  • Hot-swap capable: live connect/disconnect
  • Retention force: 15 lbs pull before release
  • Operating temp: −40°C to +85°C

Data Flow

CAN-FD BUS // 1 MBPS

All sensor data (7 pressure channels, 6-axis IMU, 3 haptic status) multiplexed onto a single CAN-FD frame at 200 Hz. Arbitration ID assigned per-glove (left = 0x210, right = 0x220). CapraCore acknowledges each frame and returns haptic commands in the response slot.

  • Frame payload: 64 bytes (CAN-FD extended)
  • Bus load: ~12% per glove at full rate
  • Error handling: automatic retransmit, bus-off recovery
  • Firmware update: over CAN bootloader

Haptic Routing

COMMAND PIPELINE

CapraCore issues haptic commands as 3-byte packets: motor ID (0–2), intensity (0–255), pattern ID (0–15). The local wrist MCU (STM32G4) decodes and drives each LRA independently. 16 pre-loaded vibration patterns cover: threat direction, grip warning, navigation waypoint, comms alert, and system status.

  • Command latency: <4 ms from Core to motor
  • Concurrent patterns: up to 3 (one per motor)
  • Adaptive intensity: Core adjusts baseline over time
  • Silent mode: all haptics suppressed via CAN command

Disconnected Mode

AUTONOMOUS FALLBACK

When disconnected from CapraLink, the glove retains full passive protection: Kevlar shell, TPU armor, cut resistance, GripSkin grip. The local wrist MCU enters standalone mode and continues logging IMU data to onboard flash (4 MB, ~8 hours). Haptic alerts and PowerGrip assist require the CapraLink connection.

  • Passive protection: 100% retained
  • IMU logging: continues in standalone
  • Haptic feedback: requires CapraLink
  • PowerGrip assist: requires CapraLink + CapraPack power

RISK ANALYSIS

ENGINEERING CHALLENGES & MITIGATIONS

Dexterity vs. Protection

// RISK: HIGH

TPU knuckle shells and sensor electronics add bulk that degrades fine-motor control. Mitigation: articulated shell segments flex at each joint; sensor flex-PCB routed through dorsal channels to avoid palm interference; Military tier accepts 15% dexterity loss for NIJ compliance, Consumer tier prioritizes feel.

Sensor Durability

// RISK: MEDIUM

Fingertip pressure sensors endure high-frequency impacts and abrasion. Mitigation: piezoresistive elements laminated beneath GripSkin™ replaceable palm layer; sensor substrate rated 500K+ flex cycles; GripSkin swap replaces worn sensing surface without full glove replacement.

Haptic False Alerts

// RISK: MEDIUM

LRA motors can fatigue or desensitize the operator during prolonged use. Mitigation: adaptive intensity algorithm reduces baseline vibration over time; critical alerts use distinct frequency + duration pattern; CapraCore AI gates haptic output to avoid alert flooding.

CapraLink Wrist Seal

// RISK: LOW

Connector must maintain IP67 seal despite wrist flexion. Mitigation: twist-lock geometry with silicone O-ring tested at 10K+ cycles; recessed mount pocket shields connector from direct impact; hot-swap design allows field replacement.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

CAPRAMITTS™ TACTICAL GLOVES

The Military tier targets ANSI A4 cut resistance using a Kevlar/Nomex outer shell with double-stitched seams. The Prosumer tier achieves ANSI A3 with a lighter-weight Kevlar blend. The Consumer tier provides ANSI A2 protection suitable for industrial and motorsport applications. All tiers include TPU knuckle shells for impact absorption.

PowerGrip is the servo-assisted grip augmentation system available on the Military tier. Miniature hydraulic actuators in the finger channels amplify grip force by up to 40%, reducing hand fatigue during sustained tool use, weapon handling, or rope operations. Pressure sensors in each fingertip provide real-time force feedback to the CapraCore AI, which modulates assist levels to match the task. The system draws power from the CapraPack battery via the CapraLink wrist connector.

Yes. The GripSkin™ palm system uses a hook-and-channel attachment that lets you swap worn palms in under 60 seconds without tools. Different GripSkin variants are available: Standard (general purpose), Wet-Grip (marine/rain), High-Temp (welding/industrial), and Precision (fine manipulation). The pressure sensors are laminated beneath the GripSkin layer, so a palm swap also refreshes the sensing surface.

Three LRA (linear resonant actuator) motors provide tactile alerts routed from the CapraCore AI. Uses include threat direction indicators (left/right buzz patterns), grip force warnings when approaching material failure thresholds, incoming communication alerts, and navigation waypoint prompts. The CapraCore adapts vibration intensity over time to prevent desensitization during extended missions.

Each glove connects via a CapraLink™ twist-lock wrist connector (IP67 rated). A quarter-turn locks power and CAN-FD data into the system bus. Sensor data from the IMU, pressure sensors, and haptic commands all route through this single ruggedized interface. The gloves maintain basic cut protection even when disconnected from the system—smart features require the CapraLink connection.

The index finger and thumb tips include capacitive-conductive thread woven into the Kevlar shell, allowing touchscreen operation without removing gloves. The Prosumer and Consumer tiers extend this to three fingers. Accuracy is slightly reduced compared to bare-finger input but sufficient for tablet and smartphone interaction in the field.
